Grandson Peter Was Founder Of Petersburg, Virginia

Exerpt from p. 268 about Peter Jones family, eventual founder of Petersburg, Virginia

Jones, Peter was in 1674  about major in command of a fort near the falls of Appomattox River.  He had a son Peter, who died in 1721.  A grandson, Peter Jones, son of Peter Jones, was the founder of Petersburg.  The last was captain and then major of the Prince George county militia, and died in Amelia county in 1754.  (William and Mary College Quarterly, xix, 287).

This Peter Jones was a descendant of the Peter Jones who was associated with Col. Wm. Byrd in running the boundard line between Virginia and North Carolina. They lived and died at Locust Grove on Reedy Creek, in Lunenburg, Va., and are buried there.
